The revised edition of this book presents the essentials of Portuguese in the order in which the student wiil naturally wish to learn them. The exercises are more progressive, and additional up-to-date material useful to the intending visitor to Portugal is included.
Reasons for learning the language are many and varied; an interest in the "Chronicles" of the early explorers; a chance encounter with a translation of the Lusiads; a more prosaic enquiry from Pernambuco for cotton goods and crockery; a visit to friendly Portugal in the winter; or a trip up the Amazon to Manaus.
