This monographic treatment of cold and front injuries is based both on the author's own vast experience in the area — an experience dating back to his medical activities on the northern Russian front in World War II — as well as on his critical evaluation of existing literature.
The treatment of localized cold injuries, including their pathology, pathophysiology, and general and specific complications, is covered in detail. The author also discusses the causes of cold necrosis, prophylaxis, follow-up treatment and orthopaedic care of cold injuries, and dangers present during the thawing-out period. Evidence is also produced that many so-called cold injuries are in fact rewarming injuries.
This book will prove an invaluable source of information not only to surgeons, anesthesiologists and traumatologists, but also to physicians and health care personnel working in catastrophe medicine, rescue operations and military hospital units.
